I can remember when Valiant was first introduced with such titles as Magnus: Robot Fighter and Solar: Man of the Atom. However, one of the titles that I remember purchasing and looking forward to every month was Harbinger. This was about a group of super powered kids that had escaped from the Harbinger foundation and were on the run. The man that headed the foundation was Toyo Harada however, what was known about this man? Where did he come from and how did he get his powers? This is the subject of the latest trade paperback entitled The Life and Death of Toyo Harada.
Not wanting to spoil a lot of the book I will say that it shows how Toyo Harada was born (he was born in Japan) and it bounces between the current time and his past. It shows that he was in Japan during the Second World War and had suffered under the radiation of the bombs dropped on Japan. This makes the book a great read as it shifts back and forth from events where the Harbinger Corporation is trying to do something in the world and is met with resistance to flashbacks of a younger Toyo Harada.
