3 From Hell Leaves a Lot of Death in Their Wake

We were introduced to the Firefly family in Rob Zombie’s House of a 1000 Corpses as we saw this twisted brood take root.  This was one of those horror movies that drew you in and kept you on the edge of your seat until the end. The next movie, Devil’s Rejects strayed away from the complete horror element (as in there weren’t any Dr. Satan or weird undead creatures). It just focused on the Firefly family and the three major players which were Captain Spaulding, Baby and Otis. Now the latest entry in the Rob Zombie saga is entitled 3 From Hell but is this the end of an era or just a new beginning?

I don’t want to give a lot of the story away however, I will bring up a few points. The story starts out where the last one left off as the Devil’s Rejects were shot repeatedly while trying to run a police roadblock. Miraculously they had survived being shot over twenty times each and all of them were being sentenced to prison time or death row. At this point I want to say that if you are looking for a lot of Captain Spaulding in this movie you can forget it as he is in it for around 15-20 minutes of the film. The reason for this is that Sid Haig’s health was in decline and he had passed on after this film was released. However, the time he was in the film was chilling and is iconic so Captain Spaulding fans will not be disappointed. The two surviving Firefly members are awaiting their fate and as Otis is on a chain gang only to be freed by his brother, Foxworth Coltraine. And this is just the start of the movie which sets the stage for a blood-soaked thrill-ride that will keep you glued to the screen until the stunning climax.

There are only two special features on this disc however, they are doozies as the first part is a commentary track by the writer-director of the film, Rob Zombie. The other is a four part making of the film entitled, To Hell and Back: The Making of 3 from Hell. This featurette goes into how the film was made and if you are a fan of the film really give this a watch.

All in all this is a great way to wrap up the Rob Zombie Firefly trilogy and if you are a fan you need to give 3 from Hell a watch. For more information on this film head over to https://www.lionsgate.com/movies/3-From-Hell and get ready to free the three!
