Back in 2009 when E3 was going on we were treated to the first ever trailer of a brand new genre of video game. This would be part shooter, part role playing game and loot based as well giving birth to the phrase “looter shooter”. This game was called Borderlands and had four intrepid vault hunters searching for the vault on a hostile planet called Pandora. Now in 2024 the folks over at Lionsgate have released the Borderlands movie which can now be bought on 4k blu-ray but is this an amazing adventure that you will want to experience or should you go back and play the games instead?

The movie finds Lilith, who is a bounty hunter, has been offered a job by the Atlas corporation by its president to find her lost daughter who is on Pandora. Lilith takes the job and heads towards the planet but finds out that the lost daughter is actually a psychopath named Tiny Tina who has an affinity for explosives. She has also joined up with the psycho named Krieg and a mercenary named Roland and when Lilith finds out she does not want to go back with her father the Crimson Lance intervenes in order to get his daughter back. There is a lot of action, comedy and it has an all-star cast with Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jack Black doing the voice of Claptrap, Kevin Hart playing as Roland,  Florian Munteanu playing as Kreig and Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina. There are a lot of great moments in the film and it is definitely worth a watch even though some critics panned the film.

There are a few extras that give some behind the scenes access on how the movie was made along with how it was adapted from the games to the silver screen. These are pretty good and give you a bit more detail on what went into making this film. The visuals on the 4k disc are absolutely stunning giving you HDR as well as great sound for the ultimate movie experience right at home.

If you loved the movie in the theaters or you missed it and love the games you need to check out this great release from Lionsgate. For this and some other amazing films head on over to https://www.lionsgate.com/ and get ready to experience the wastes of Pandora
