In 2009 we were given an amazing concept on the first person shooter as it was meshed with a role playing game. The game was released by Gearbox and it was called Borderlands and it became a smash hit. The game gave us two sequels along with two spin offs and even a movie starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart. Now the folks over at Gearbox are giving us another entry in the franchise and it looks to be bigger and badder than the previous entries. Welcome to the prison planet of Kairos which is the setting of Borderlands 4.
On Kairos there are four factions vying for control however, the biggest one has to be the Timekeeper and his legions. They are striving to keep everything and everyone in check as the other factions are fighting for the leftover scraps. You will take control of one of the four badass vault hunters which are a siren named Vex, a forgeknight named Amon, a gravitar named Harlowe and an exo-soldier named Rafa. Each of these characters have unique strengths and abilities that can be paired with some devastating weapons to inflict pain on your opponents. One new feature included in Borderlands 4 is the ability to summon your digirunner. No longer will you have to go to a terminal and spawn a vehicle; you can do this anywhere in the world to help you get around better. You also get a drone named Echo-4 which serves multiple functions from navigating to your next objective to changing your character’s appearance on the fly. Located on the map are various points of interest which you can capture for the Crimson Resistance. There are safe houses that you can clear out giving you better fast travel options or silos that contain communication balloons that can help you scope out your next target.
Borderlands 4 is slated to release September 12th, 2025 and for more information on where to purchase it and the different editions go to borderlands.2k.com and get ready to liberate Kairos.
