As the holiday season comes barreling towards us like a freight train people are wondering what to get their friends and loved ones. For some it is an easy choice as they know their tastes and what they love but for the geekier ones on your list it is harder. One way to go is signing them up for one of those subscription box services. The folks over at Skybound have seen the popularity of this service on the rise and have decided to throw their hat into the ring. I recently caught up with some of the folks over at Skybound to see what is in store for us with their new offering… the Megabox.

Please introduce yourself

My name is Shawn Kirkham. I’m the Senior Vice President of Business Development here at Skybound.

Tell us about your new venture: The Megabox (love saying that!)

The MegaBox is Skybound’s new quarterly subscription box aimed at collectors. The MegaBox started as an idea between Robert Kirkman and David Alpert for how to highlight the work we do with McFarlane toys for our action figure lines.  From that, we built out a mystery box program that was filled with the stuff we love to collect.

What can fans look forward to in each box?

The core of The MegaBox in an exclusive action figure from McFarlane Toys. Also included is an exclusive variant comic, this quarter’s box includes a reprint of Negan’s first appearance in The Walking Dead. There’s also an exclusive shirt, which is an homage to Negan’s favorite past time in The Walking Dead comics (no, not killing people). And there’s other cool stuff as well.

What companies are you partnering with?

One of the great things we get to do with The MegaBox is work with our friends to make each box’s content. Besides the aforementioned McFarlane Toys, we have an enamel pin from the guys at Yesterdays. Those guys are doing some great stuff in the pin game and you can check them out at their website (https://www.yesterdays.cohttps://www.yesterdays.com). We also have a contribution from long time collaborator, George Gaspar at Double G Toys.

How much will this cost?

The MegaBox costs $50 for each box and is available in quarterly and yearly subscriptions.

Will it be cheaper to go with a year subscription or is just a month to month basis?

Yup, if you subscribe to our yearly plan, you save 10%.

Will there be some special boxes down the road?

We have some fun things planned for the future. The plan is to highlight The Walking Dead and other Skybound titles and brands, but to also bring in some other cool partners to make each box something special for the collectors.

And there you have it folks! The folks over at Skybound have been gracious to send me a box so there will be a review coming up on that. I think this is going to be a great service especially for fans of The Walking Dead as there are going to be some very exclusive items only available in this box. For more information on this box and how you can get your own head over to http://www.skybound.com/introducing-the-megabox/ for either that special someone or yourself this holiday season.
