Into the Badlands 307: Dragonfly’s Last Dance

The winds of war blow strong through the Badlands as the Widow gathers her inner circle to find the best way to take on Baron Chau. Lydia, Gaius and Moon all have their own ideas of how to deal with their adversary and the four struggle to reach a consensus. That’s not the only hint of discord in the Widow’s house as her disgruntled cogs are planning a coup in a bid to end the bloody war being staged by the two barons. Dragonfly’s Last Dance finds the Widow behind bars, Sunny delving deeper into his past and Bajie reconnecting with his ex Lily.

The tables are turned on the Widow and Gaius when they are confronted by Wren and Arthur. With the Baron and her ally behind bars Wren lays into the Widow for betraying those who have suffered due to her fruitless war with Chau. The duo want an end to the bloody conflict and reason that strong-arming the Widow into asking for a truce is the only way to achieve their goal.

When Sunny and Bajie take a break from their journey to find Pilgrim, Sunny and the River King continue to renew acquaintances. Trying to earn Sunny’s trust, the River King provides him with some valuable information but also has some treachery in store for his former charge. Following the River King’s tip Sunny tracks down the former captain of the boat he was on as a boy, learns about his family and of a mysterious group clad in red and black armor.

Pilgrim operates with a heavy heart as he, Cressida and his followers give Castor a final send off. Castor’s death opens the door for M.K. to gain more prominence in Pilgrim’s group. With the pair preparing for Sunny’s arrival the fissures that appeared in their alliance last episode come back to the fore once again. Castor’s death continues to be a sore point and Cressida’s hand in it doesn’t sit well with Pilgrim. The death doesn’t sit well with Nix either and when she confronts Pilgrim on the true nature of his death she gets more than she can handle.

With the coup in full effect, Moon enlists the aid of Tilda to help turn the tide. On another front Lydia works her magic to see that the coup is a success. She thrusts herself into the middle of the fray and against the Widow’s wishes offers herself up as the solution to the bloodshed.

Dragonfly’s Last Dance boasts a couple of solid fight scenes, a new adversary and evidence that the Widow’s bite isn’t to be trifled with. With the introduction of Black Lotus, an addition to Sunny’s family and the reaffirmation of his importance where the gift is concerned there’s a lot to process before next week’s mid-season finale.
