So here it is, brought to us by the developers of FatShark and a game that has gamers facing the impossible, the monstrous, the disgusting….a plague of huge rats. Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide is a first person shooter co-op game that has us diving into the Warhammer universe. Here we will battle it out with huge rondents that have figured out how to use guns and swords as means to mow down their competition, that being us. The creatures names are Skaven, and the city they are infesting is Ubersreik. That said, don’t plan a vacation here anytime soon, it’s not really a sight for those faint in heart.

To defend ourselves players have been given access to five brave, or insane depending on how you look at it, heroes. This ranges from the Witch-Hunter, Imperial Solider, Wood Elf, Waywatcher and Pyromage. These heroes all have their own unique set of skills which make them a monstrous opponent up close, or an effective marksman from afar. It’s up you to decide on how you wish to deal with the horde streaming at you from all sides. To ensure that we can effectively manage the ever growing difficulty of monsters, players will be gifted loot at the end of every level. I want to note for those of you who might avoid the higher difficulty levels, that the higher the difficulty? The higher the reward.

The game plays like Left 4 Dead, meaning that your team mates are essential to your survival, and that you will be fighting of waves of enemies to successfully journey from one end of the map to the other. So that means pick your team mates wisely if you can, no lone ranging is needed here folks. This is especially important when dealing with the more elite Skaven, the ones that are protected with armour or equipped with machine guns. For those of you hoping to a rhyme or reason to the apperance of your enemies…keep dreaming. The game has a function called “conflict director” which essentially allows for the enemies to spawn randomly all over. For those of you who still don’t get it, that means the enemies will spawn in front of you, to the side of you….and yes even behind you from an area you just cleared.

So keep moving!

In all honesty this is probably one of the cheapest games you will find currently, and it doesn’t really feature a stellar story. That aside, its tremendously fun to play with a group of friends and quite rewarding when you finish each mission. I say pick it up and give it a try, I almost gurantee you won’t be disappointed and if you are….sorry?
