Marvel, Sony and Disney have finally found their man with the announcement that Tom Holland will be taking over the role of Spider-Man in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). Holland, 19 will star in the upcoming Spider-Man stand alone film in 2017 but will make his debut in next year’s highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War.
Holland is probably best known for his role in 2012’s The Impossible, starring Naomi Watts and Ewen McGregor. Holland succeeds fellow Brit, Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and reports indicate that his Spider-Man film in 2017 won’t be an origin story. Instead, the film will focus on his web slinging adventures as a high school student. That’s amazing news to Spider-Man fans who have seen enough of Spidey’s radioactive spider, Uncle Ben narrative and want the character to dive into stories featuring his impressive rogues gallery.
